When did you first playing music? Can you tell me a bit about your background and education in music?
I first started playing music in 5th grade when I began playing violin in the school orchestra; I switched to double bass when I entered junior high school in 7th grade because they needed a bass player. My family is non-musical and I didn't get serious about bass until high school, although I took lessons from 8th grade on. I realized my junior year of high school that I was in rehearsals 4 nights a week, so maybe I needed to major in music; I had always wanted to be a teacher.
Who is your favorite musician?
I don't think I can narrow it down to one musician. Some that I love include Django Reinhardt, Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, Edgar Meyer, Jordi Savall, Beethoven, Mozart. Along with classical music, I have interests in early music and BALKAN music.
What was the first piece of music you ever purchased?
First LP was Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits; first CD was Gustav Holst's The Planets.
What are some of your hobbies and non-work activities?
I love to read, mostly cozy mysteries, and be in nature; Autumn is my favorite time of year! I love animals, especially cats; vintage movies, Alfred Hitchcock, and British TV.
